Reykjavík City Card FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about the Reykjavík City Card. Please note: when you buy through this page you receive a voucher that you exchange on arrival for the physical card.

Buying & Price

How much does the Reykjavík City Card cost?+

The Reykjavík City Card is available for 24, 48 or 72 hours. The current price for each option is shown in the booking window. For more details, see the Prices page.

How do I get the card after buying online?+

After purchasing online you immediately receive a voucher by email. In Reykjavík you exchange this for the physical City Card at one of the collection points, such as the Reykjavík Art Museum or one of the City Museum sites.

Where can I collect my pass?+

Collection points include the Reykjavík Art Museum (Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstaðir, Ásmundarsafn) and the City Museums, including the Settlement Exhibition, the Photography Museum, Árbær Open Air Museum and the Maritime Museum.

Are there discounts for children?+

Yes. You can select the discounted children's price in the booking window. Children and young people under 18 already get free admission to the city museums in most cases; small fees may apply for buses, pools or the family zoo depending on age.

Validity & Use

How does activation work and how long is the pass valid?+

The validity period begins with the first use or collection of the card. From that point it is valid for 24, 48 or 72 consecutive hours, depending on the option you choose. When you collect the card you can note a later start time if you prefer.

Are there time restrictions within the validity period?+

No, there are no time-of-day restrictions. Within the validity period you can use museums, pools and buses at any time of day, until the chosen number of hours has elapsed.

Can I pass my card on to someone else?+

Each City Card is intended for one person and should not be handed on to others. It cannot be used by more than one person at the same time.

What happens if I lose my pass?+

A lost card is not replaced or refunded. Treat it like cash - if it is lost you will need to buy a new one, as a lost pass cannot be replaced or reimbursed. Keep it somewhere safe.

Public Transport

What public transport can I use?+

The pass is valid on all Strætó city bus lines in Reykjavík and the surrounding municipalities, with unlimited rides for the duration of the pass. Show the card when boarding. For more details, see the Public Transport page.

Does the card cover the journey from the airport?+

No. The airport bus (Strætó line 55 to Keflavík) is not included and must be paid for separately. The private Flybus shuttle is also not part of the card.

Is the ferry to Viðey included?+

Yes. The return ferry crossing to Viðey island is included in the City Card. Show the card to staff at the ferry pier.

Attractions & Benefits

What is included in the Reykjavík City Card?+

The Reykjavík City Card gives you one free admission to 17 museums and galleries as well as the city's geothermal pools. It also covers Strætó city buses, the Viðey ferry and discounts on tours, shopping and services. See the full list on the Attractions page.

Can I visit attractions more than once?+

Within the validity period you can visit as many different included attractions as you like. However, usually only one free admission per attraction is included; repeat visits to the same attraction are not normally covered.

Is there fast-track entry to attractions?+

No, the City Card does not include priority access. You queue as normal like all other visitors, but save time because there is no need to buy tickets on the spot.
