Reykjavik Card

Attractions with the Reykjavík City Card

17 museums and galleries plus the city's geothermal pools, each included once for free, along with unlimited city buses and the Viðey island ferry. Here is what is included and when the card pays off.

Geothermal swimming pools

Reykjavík's geothermal swimming pools are the heart of local life, warm outdoor pools and hot tubs heated by Iceland's volcanic energy. The City Card gives you free access to the city's pools.

From the large Laugardalslaug to neighbourhood pools, it is the card's most-used benefit and the easiest way to feel like a local on any day, whatever the weather.

Reykjavík Art Museum

The Reykjavík Art Museum is Iceland's largest visual-art institution, spread across three sites, Hafnarhús by the harbour, Kjarvalsstaðir in Klambratún park and Ásmundarsafn, the studio-home of sculptor Ásmundur Sveinsson.

One City Card covers all three, from contemporary shows to the work of Jóhannes Kjarval, Iceland's best-loved painter.

The Settlement Exhibition

Part of Reykjavík City Museum, the Settlement Exhibition is built around the excavated remains of a Viking-age longhouse from before 1000 AD, one of the oldest traces of human habitation in Iceland.

Multimedia displays bring the early settlement of Reykjavík to life right where it began, in the centre of the modern city.

Reykjavík City Museum sites

The City Card covers the other Reykjavík City Museum sites too, the open-air Árbær Museum with its historic turf and timber houses, the Maritime Museum by the old harbour, and the Museum of Photography.

Together they tell the story of how a small fishing settlement grew into a capital city.

Ferry to Viðey island

A free return ferry crossing takes you to Viðey, the tranquil island just off Reykjavík. It is home to walking trails, birdlife, historic buildings and Yoko Ono's Imagine Peace Tower.

The short hop across the bay is one of the most rewarding ways to escape the city for an afternoon.

City buses (Strætó)

The City Card includes unlimited rides on the yellow Strætó city buses across the greater Reykjavík area for the whole validity period. Use them to reach museums, pools and the ferry terminal without buying separate tickets.

Note: the airport bus (line 55 to Keflavík) is not included and must be paid for separately.

Discounts on tours, shops and services

Beyond free entry, the card unlocks discounts on a range of tours, restaurants, shops and services around Reykjavík.

The exact partners change over time, so it is worth checking the current discount list when you collect your card to get extra value from your stay.

All museums and pools listed above are included once each with the Reykjavík City Card. Opening hours and seasonal availability can vary, check the respective provider for current details.
